My Story
I’ve always been a kinesthetic person who loves to move. Growing up in New York City, I played in the streets every chance I could get. I started studying dance as a child, and in my 20’s I moved to Seattle (where I still live) and became a professional dancer, choreographer, and teacher. In the years that followed I explored many fields of fitness and movement studies. This led me to become a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst in 1999. In 2002 I began my immersion in the practice of yoga and started teaching in 2005. It has been my focus ever since.
Watching how people express themselves through movement fascinates me. I feel naturally attuned to the aliveness that comes through peoples’ unique movement signatures, much like a painter might feel connected to colors or a poet to words. My experience in movement analysis has helped me refine these observations in a way I can apply directly.
As a yoga teacher, I tune into my students in the same way. By paying special attention to what helps each of them move and relax, I guide them through their practice in a connected and functional manner. From yoga I have learned wonderful ways to find balance, inner calm, and resilience. My goal as a teacher is to help my students receive these same benefits from every class they take.
Teaching Style
I work to help students discover ease, strength, focus, and integration in their practice. My style offers a dynamic blend of effort and relaxation, with high regard for breath support, alignment, and movement connectivity. I offer my students modifications for all levels of practice, as well as many suggestions for alignment and body awareness that they can use in their daily lives.
